History
The company was founded By Tom Garratt (my Grandfather) in 1934. It was located on the 1st floor at 84 Tory Street, Wellington. They produced many styles of work including gin bottle labels for Preston Wines, which had gold embossing and printed in 2 colours. We have a brochure printed in 1934, which has a full colour print for the cover. They specialised in publications which included the NZ Marine and Power Engineer and NZ Hospital Journal and NZ Electrician Magazines to name a few, with these they soon out grew the current premises in Tory St and a decision was made in 1956 to purchase 4 houses in Haining St with plans to build the current building we are still in today.
In 1971 Bob Garratt (My Father) took over the company and then went on to introduce the early Offset Printing Technology which increased the speed and style of printing we were doing.
On 7th Sept 1986 we were the victim of an arsonist which destroyed the printing room and damaged the 1st floor area. We were fully insured and back in business within 1 week albeit very limited. With the help of another local print company we where still able to keep all our customers happy, as GST was coming into effect for the 1st of October and most needed their stationery updated, one client, a large finance company, also needed all their hire purchase documents reprinted due to the changes.
In 2006 Chris Garratt took over the company and has again adapted to new technology with modern management systems for estimating and job control (Tharsten MIS) along with a more modern fit out for the office area. We are onto our second upgrade of Digital Colour Printing machines and have recently installed a multi colour Heidelberg Speedmaster press to compliment our existing presses and finishing equipment.
